Sometimes just switching off your heater and turning off a light when you leave a room, can help you save money. It’s just a matter of keeping your mind focused on how to save energy in ways that makes it easier to save energy without over taxing your friends and family with a lot of weird ideas that are way too hard to keep up with.
Here are some examples of excellent ways to save energy:
1. Check under your exterior doors to be sure you don’t feel air coming in from the outside. Many of us have not checked this area and by fixing weather sealing tape under your doors, you can save energy and lots of money at the same time. And to answer the question, “what is alternative energy source?” you can use one of the new safety type space heaters to warm your rooms. These are energy efficient and safe and are way cheaper than running your heater all day on really frigid days. You won’t save energy if you don’t try different ideas.
2. Another way to save energy in your home or apartment is unplug your electrical appliances. Many people don’t realize that appliances and tools that remain plugged in are actually using some electricity. TVs and entertainment systems are a perfect example for this tip. And “instant on” appliances are even bigger energy users than other types. It is their function to remain on the ready so when you flip the switch, they are on in an instant. This feature cost you a few hundred dollars a year, depending on the size and functions handled by the appliance.
So, first and foremost, Un Plug Your Appliances! You can plug them in when you’re ready to use them. Remember your focus is to save energy, not waste it!
3. Use an energy monitor to keep track of your appliance’s appetite for electricity. There are several models of these monitors that are made by a few major and minor manufacturers. And most of them work in the same manner.
These electricity monitors are simple to use to help you save energy. All you do is just plug the device into your wall outlet. And then you plug your appliance into the monitoring device. Most of them will have a screen that displays data that tells you how much energy the appliance is using. You’ll be amazed at how easy it will be to save energy with one of these energy watchdogs on guard 24/7.
4. Another savvy and cool way to save energy is to use a power strip with a brain. These devices come under several jazzy names but nearly all of them work in the same manner to save energy.
Basically, you replace all of your power strips with one of these “save energy” type of power strips. At that point all you have to do is plug in your appliances. These brainy types of power strips actually modify the amount of power your appliances use during their operations.
What this means is, if you are watching TV, the power being used for all of your appliances that are turned off, is redirected to the TV. No use wasting energy by feeding a sleeping appliance. It makes sense doesn’t it!
The bottom line if you want to save energy is to actually focus your mind on how to save energy and don’t get distracted by the bright and shiny objects you see in the store.
